About the player
Gjivai Zechiël made his senior debut for Feyenoord on 27 August 2023, coming off the bench in a 6–1 win over Sparta Rotterdam. He had signed his first professional contract with Feyenoord in April 2022, and before he was loaned back out he had already made 17 senior appearances for Feyenoord, scoring once.
That loan to Sparta, for the 2023–24 season, gave him a proper run of games: 13 Eredivisie appearances and two goals. A second Sparta loan followed in February 2025, before he moved on in June 2025 to FC Utrecht on a season-long loan from Feyenoord, without an option to buy.
His time at Feyenoord brought silverware rather than just experience: he won the Johan Cruyff Shield in 2024 and the KNVB Cup in 2023–24. His individual form has kept being recognised in the Eredivisie's Johan Cruyff Talent of the Month award, which he picked up in October 2025 and again in May 2026. At international level, Zechiël has been capped ten times by the Netherlands under-21 side, scoring four goals.
