About the player
Guilherme Pires joined Sporting's academy at around nine years old, in the 2014/15 season, having started out in the youth ranks at GD Estoril Praia and Vitória FC.
The 2021/22 campaign brought his biggest honour as a junior: he won the Campeonato Nacional Juniores with Sporting's under-19 side, playing 17 matches that season. He also took youth tournament titles with the club at the Torneio da Pontinha and in Malaysia.
By 2024/25, Pires had moved into senior football, splitting his season between the under-23 side, where he played 13 matches, and Sporting CP B, for whom he made six appearances in Liga 3. His performances that year helped the B team secure promotion to Liga Portugal 2 for the following season. He was also called into training sessions with Sporting's first team during the campaign. In June 2025, the club rewarded that progress with a contract renewal running to 2027.
Pires has also had a taste of international football, winning a cap for Portugal's under-20 side as a substitute against England under-20 in October 2024 in the Elite League.
