About the player
Hussein Carneil was born in Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan, and fled to Sweden at the age of three. He began playing for Trollhättans BoIS and IFK Trollhättan, before a spell at Skoftebyns IF took him into the IFK Göteborg academy in 2019. He was promoted to the Göteborg first team in March 2022 and made his competitive debut that February in a 2–0 Svenska Cupen win over Landskrona BoIS.
Carneil spent three seasons with Göteborg, making 59 appearances in total, 39 of them in the Allsvenskan, where he scored three goals and set up two more. He left the club as a free agent in August 2025 and moved to Spain, joining Atlético Sanluqueño in October that year. In the Primera Federación he made eight appearances without finding the net.
He returned to Sweden in March 2026, signing for Halmstads BK on a Bosman transfer through to the end of 2028. At international level, Carneil has represented Sweden's youth sides, winning two caps for the U21s in 2022 and a further two for the U19s in 2023.
