About the player
Joeri Heerkens was born in Broumov, in the Czech Republic, and took his first steps in football there, moving through TJ Slovan Broumov, FK Náchod and FC Hradec Králové before joining the youth academy of AC Sparta Prague in 2021. He came through the Czech system and represented Czech Republic at youth level before switching allegiance to the Netherlands, the country of his nationality.
At Sparta Prague he never made a league appearance for the first team, playing for Sparta Prague B. That path led, in July 2025, to a move to Ajax, where he signed a five-year contract running until 2030.
Heerkens was part of the Dutch squad that won the 2025 UEFA European Under-19 Championship, and his performances in that tournament earned him a place in the Team of the Tournament.
