John Koutroumbis

Adelaide-born, John Koutroumbis worked his way into professional football through West Adelaide's youth ranks and Adelaide United's reserve side before Newcastle Jets signed him as an injury cover option in late 2016. He stayed with the Jets for the best part of five seasons, making 90 league appearances and scoring three goals before the two parties mutually agreed to end the deal in 2021. Spells at Western Sydney Wanderers and Perth Glory followed, with his appearances tailing off compared with his Newcastle output.

A versatile defender, he has been used at right-back, centre-back and left wing-back over the course of his career. In 2018, during his time at Newcastle, he was diagnosed with stage 1 thyroid cancer and made a full recovery.

He has represented Australia at under-23 level, winning two caps as part of the squad's AFC U-23 Championship qualification campaign in 2019 and in friendly matches the following year, though he has not been capped by the senior Socceroos side.

Koutroumbis moved to Scotland to join Motherwell, making his competitive debut against St Johnstone in August 2024. He has since become a regular fixture in the side, passing 18 league appearances.
