José Alberti

The award came in March 2022, at Boston River, where José Alberti wore the captain's armband: AUF Player of the Month. It remains the only individual honour on his record, and it arrived in the middle of the spell that defined him.

He had come up at Juventud de Las Piedras, in the town where he was born, and stayed there for his first four senior seasons before the move to Boston River in 2020. In January 2023 he left Uruguay for the first time, joining Emelec in Ecuador on a one-year loan with an option to buy. The option was not taken up. By August he was back home, signing for Nacional on a free transfer with a deal running to December 2024.

That contract never ran its course in Montevideo's biggest shirt. In January 2024, five months after arriving, Alberti was loaned to Montevideo Wanderers for a year. The move gave him what Nacional had not: he played 33 league matches that season and scored twice, adding a single appearance in the Copa Sudamericana.

No major club title has followed him from Juventud, Boston River, Emelec, Nacional or Wanderers. Nor has a national-team call-up, at senior or youth level. What the record shows instead is a midfielder who has played a lot of football in Uruguay.
