Match Report
Wanderers edged past Defensor Sporting 1-0 in a tight Primera match on Saturday evening, with the result keeping them firmly in seventh place while Defensor remain rooted to thirteenth. The visitors took all three points despite being denied an early lead, a moment that would have changed everything if the offside call had gone the other way.
And here's the thing about that opening exchange — J. Neris thought he had carved them open inside ten minutes, but VAR stepped in to cancel the goal for offside. Defensor pressed hard after that, pushing forward with conviction, but the high line was picked apart only once, and not in their favour. Three yellow cards came before half-time, a sign of a match growing edgy.
The second period saw Wanderers work a short corner and look more composed, while Defensor's substitutions brought fresh legs but no structure. By then you could see the pattern — Defensor had the attacks but not the end product, Wanderers had fewer shots but one on target mattered. Labandeira arrived late, and when the moment came, he took it.
That was the ninety-minute goal, a strike that rescued the point for Wanderers and left Defensor digging in their heels with nothing to show for their dominance. The statistics tell a story of missed chances — Defensor hit nine shots wide but managed just one on target, while Wanderers needed only four to find the net.
They finished with 100 attacks against 107, possession nearly even at 49 to 51 per cent, but the result rests on one moment and one player. Wanderers move on with forty-two points, Defensor stay on twenty-nine, and the gap between seventh and thirteenth remains unchanged.
