About the player

The debut came in November 2013, and it came against Peñarol: Leandro Zazpe was thrown into a 2–1 defeat for Centro Atlético Fénix, the club where the left-footed centre-back spent close to three years of his early career.

He left Fénix in July 2016 for Juventud de Las Piedras. A loan to the Argentine side Defensa y Justicia in August 2017 produced nothing at all — not a single competitive appearance. The second loan, to C.A. He went back to Juventud, then signed permanently for Racing Club de Montevideo on 8 January 2019.

What followed was a run of moves that took him out of Uruguay altogether. In 2020 he crossed to Chile and Deportes Valdivia in the Primera B. Two years later he was in Bolivia with Oriente Petrolero, then Libertad Gran Mamoré in 2023 and Guabirá in 2024 — three countries and four clubs in five seasons, none of them lasting more than two years.

The return home came in January 2025, when Montevideo Wanderers signed him as a free agent. Association records credit him with 34 appearances and a goal in the 2024 season.

Zazpe has no senior caps for Uruguay.
