About the player
Two Copa Proyección titles in a single year — the 2024 Apertura and the Clausura — put Jonás Luna at the centre of a River Plate reserve side coached by Marcelo Escudero. Across roughly 90 appearances for River Plate II between 2022 and 2025 he scored eight goals and set up nine more, playing as an attacking midfielder and at times further forward.
Luna started out at Escuela Raúl Pinto, then Vinalar, then CA Mitre, and moved on to Sarmiento de Resistencia before River Plate took him into their youth system in 2022. His first professional contract followed in June 2023.
What did not follow was a senior debut. He sat on the River Plate bench six times without getting on the pitch. In 2023 Javier Mascherano called him into training sessions with the Argentina under-20 squad, though he has yet to win an official cap.
In August 2025 Luna rescinded his River Plate contract and joined Montevideo Wanderers on a free transfer, where he wears number 11.
