Jonathan Matías Urretaviscaya da Luz

The Bronze Ball at the 2017 FIFA Club World Cup went to a Uruguayan who had scored in the third-place match. That was Jonathan Urretaviscaya, then of Pachuca.

He had reached Mexico in January 2015, after seven years attached to Benfica. Lisbon signed him from River Plate of Montevideo in 2008. He collected the Primeira Liga and the Taça da Liga in 2009–10 and was part of the squad that finished runner-up in the Europa League in 2012–13, but the years in between were spent mostly elsewhere: on loan at Peñarol, at Deportivo de La Coruña — where the purchase option, set at €15 million, was never taken up — at Vitória de Guimarães and at Paços de Ferreira, with two seasons in the B team.

Mexico gave him what Portugal had not. With Pachuca he won the Clausura in 2016 and the CONCACAF Champions League in 2016–17. He moved to Monterrey in January 2018 and won the same two trophies again, the Apertura and the continental title, both in 2019.

The Uruguayan chapters bracket all of it. On loan at Peñarol he won the domestic championship in 2009–10 and lost the 2011 Copa Libertadores final. He went back to Peñarol in 2020, then moved through Rentistas, River Plate, Boston River and Racing de Montevideo across four seasons, joining Juventud de Las Piedras at the start of 2025.

He is now at Montevideo Wanderers, wearing 80.
