About the player
Tsunemoto came through Yokohama F. Marinos' academy before choosing a college path, spending four years at Meiji University rather than turning professional straight away. Kashima Antlers signed him as a designated special player in 2020, and he stayed with the club until 2023, when Servette brought him to Switzerland for a fee of €3.6 million on a three-year deal. That switch worked out well: in his first season at the Geneva club, Servette won the Swiss Cup, and Tsunemoto was named to the Swiss Super League Team of the Season.
Basel moved for him on 1 July 2025, paying a reported €1.9 million to bring him to St. Jakob-Park. He arrived with two years of Swiss top-flight football already behind him, having established himself during his time at Servette.
Tsunemoto has represented Japan at U-17 level, with four caps to his name, and has spoken of his ambition to one day play for the senior national side, the Samurai Blue, at a World Cup.
