About the player
Podlech spent nearly a decade in Schalke's academy after arriving from SV Leithe 19/65 in 2016, working his way up through the club's youth ranks and winning the U17 Bundesliga title with the Knappenschmiede in the 2021/22 season. He was capped by Germany at U16, U17, U18 and U19 level along the way.
Podlech remained third-choice throughout, instead making 37 appearances for Schalke's reserve side in the Regionalliga West.
A move away finally opened the path to senior football. Schalke sent him on loan to Aalesunds FK until the end of 2026, and he made his professional debut for the Norwegian club on 26 July 2026 against Viking Stavanger, playing the full 90 minutes of a 1–1 draw. It was his first appearance as a senior professional after years of academy and reserve-team football in Gelsenkirchen.
