Marc-André ter Stegen

Marc-André ter Stegen joined Borussia Mönchengladbach's academy at the age of four and worked his way through the club's ranks, making 18 appearances for the reserve side before a debut for the first team against 1. FC Köln in April 2011. He went on to make 108 appearances for Mönchengladbach before Barcelona paid €12 million for him in the summer of 2014.

At Camp Nou he settled into the role of goalkeeper, amassing 291 league appearances and building a trophy collection that includes seven La Liga titles, a Champions League triumph in his first season, a UEFA Super Cup and a FIFA Club World Cup, on top of repeated Copa del Rey and Supercopa de España wins. His individual highlight came in 2022–23, when he was awarded the Zamora Trophy. He was handed the captaincy at Barcelona in 2024.

With Germany, ter Stegen won the UEFA European Under-17 Championship and the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2009, followed by the Under-19 European title in 2011. At senior level he earned 44 caps and was named Man of the Match in the 2017 Confederations Cup final, which Germany won.

The recent chapter of his career has taken a different turn. In January 2026 he was loaned to Girona, where a hamstring injury limited him to two appearances, and he then moved on loan to Ajax for the 2026–27 season, a switch arranged with the help of former Girona manager Michel.
