Mark Gutbub

Marc Gutbub came through FC Thun's academy on a free transfer, having joined from FC Köniz's youth ranks in 2018. He stayed in the club's junior system for five years before earning a promotion to the senior squad in 2023, making his professional debut that July. The club rewarded him with his first professional contract in January 2024, then extended it through 2028 just months later, a vote of confidence in a player who had cost nothing to acquire and cost nothing to keep.

Gutbub's rise has tracked the club's own. He was part of the FC Thun squad that won the 2024–25 Swiss Challenge League, a title that carried the side back into the top flight. The following season brought something the club had never previously achieved: FC Thun lifted the 2025–26 Swiss Super League, their first top-division championship. Sharing in back-to-back promotion and title-winning campaigns places him at the centre of one of Swiss football's more notable recent stories.

His path has been entirely homegrown: no transfer fee changed hands at any stage of his career, from his youth switch to Thun through to his elevation into the first team.
