Mats Köhlert

Mats Köhlert grew up in Hamburg and worked his way through SC Sperber, Eintracht Norderstedt and FC St. Pauli before Hamburger SV took him into their academy in 2013. He made his professional debut for HSV in the 2. Bundesliga against VfL Bochum in March 2019, then left for the Netherlands.

At Willem II he became a regular in the left-back position, and in the 2019–20 season he contributed six goals and four assists in 26 matches as the club finished fifth and reached the UEFA Europa League. He went on to make more than 90 appearances for Willem II before their relegation in 2022, then moved to SC Heerenveen. His 2024–25 season there stood out: he was named the club's Player of the Year after creating 62 chances and completing 70 successful crosses, and he was picked for the Eredivisie Team of the Month in October 2022 and again in August 2024.

Köhlert joined Brøndby IF on a free transfer in July 2025. His first season in Denmark was interrupted in April 2026, when he picked up an injury in a match against Sønderjyske that ruled him out for the rest of the campaign.

Köhlert came through Germany's youth set-up in full, collecting 37 caps across the U16 to U21 age groups. With the U17s he reached the final of both the 2015 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, where Germany lost to France, and the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup. He has not been capped by the senior national team.
