About the player
El Bachir Ngom's route to Belgium's top flight began not in Dakar but in Riga. Signed by Riga FC on a free transfer in June 2022 after a brief spell at FK Auda, the defender became a fixture of a side that swept the Latvian Cup in 2023, the Super Cup in 2024 and the Virsliga title itself in 2025 — a run that also saw him turn out for the club's reserve side, Riga FC 2.
Grasshopper Club Zürich paid a fee reported between €600,000 and €700,000 to bring him to the Swiss Super League in February 2026. He lasted only half a season there before KAA Gent moved for him in July 2026, signing him until 2031.
Ngom's career started at the Diambars FC Academy in Senegal, where he came through before making his professional debut for Diambars FC and playing there until 2021. Internationally, he has represented Senegal at U23 level but has not yet won a senior cap. At Gent, as at Grasshoppers before it, he has yet to add to the trophy collection he built in Latvia.
