When Mazatlán FC folded and the club was transformed in 2026, one detail stood out amid the closure: Omar Moreno became the last player in the club's history to wear the number 10 shirt.

Moreno was a product of the Mazatlán academy, working through the club's under-17, under-20 and under-23 sides from 2021 before his first-team debut on 12 January 2023. He became the first player born in the state of Sonora to debut in Liga MX that year. He went on to make 39 league appearances for Mazatlán, adding two more in the Leagues Cup, and scored three goals with one assist across his spell at the club.

With Mazatlán's closure, Moreno moved on as a free agent. The move to Puebla FC was agreed on 29 May 2026, with the transfer taking effect from 1 July.

His progress had already caught the attention of Mexico's youth setup. He was capped once for the under-19 side in 2023, scoring on that appearance, and featured five times for the under-20 team in 2025, scoring once, including a run at the Maurice Revello Tournament. He has since been involved in preparations with the under-23 squad for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games.
