About the player
Riku Yamada spent three years at Omiya Ardija without making a single senior league appearance for the club, instead being sent out on loan season after season: to Iwate Grulla Morioka in 2018, to AC Nagano Parceiro in 2019, and to Ventforet Kofu in 2020. The path eventually led somewhere — the loan spell at Kofu turned into a permanent move that November, and it was there, across the 2021 and 2022 seasons, that he became a regular, making 77 league appearances and winning the 2022 Emperor's Cup with the club.
A move to Nagoya Grampus followed in November 2022, though first-team opportunities were harder to come by there, with Yamada making six league appearances in the 2023 season. He joined V-Varen Nagasaki on 8 January 2024, and lifted a second Emperor's Cup that year, coming on as a substitute in the third-round tie against Kashima Antlers.
Yamada has never been capped by Japan at senior or youth international level, and his career has so far been built on steady accumulation rather than individual recognition.
