About the player
Rafael Mota came through Vitória SC's academy in his native Guimarães before Sporting CP picked him up in July 2019, and the club backed the move with a first formation contract signed when he was just fourteen.
Called up by Portugal's U17s, Mota played in the side that reached the final of the 2024 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, a run ended by Italy. He has since featured for the U18 and U19 sides as well.
The promotion to Sporting CP B arrived in January 2026, and with it his first taste of senior competitive football in Liga Portugal 2, against sides including Académico de Viseu, FC Porto B, Benfica B and Vizela. At 190 cm and left-footed, though his time at senior level so far is still short, and there are no titles or individual honours yet attached to his name.
