About the player
Magnússon's route to Scottish football ran through island football, from Fylkir's youth ranks to ÍBV, the club representing his native Vestmannaeyjar. He made his senior debut for ÍBV in 2019 and went on to make 81 league appearances for the club, scoring 9 goals, interspersed with two loan spells at KFS in 2019 and 2022.
A brief stop at Valur in 2025 preceded the move that changed his career: on 4 August 2025 he signed for Heart of Midlothian on a three-year deal, for what the club described as an undisclosed five-figure fee. It marked his first move outside Icelandic football.
Since arriving in Edinburgh, Magnússon has established himself in the Hearts midfield, making 31 league appearances for the club and scoring 3 goals. He wears the number 22 shirt and plays with his right foot.
