About the player
When Roberth Björknesjö took charge of IFK Mariehamn, he brought in a midfielder he already knew from previous work together. Viktor Widlund joined the Åland Islands club on 1 July 2026, arriving on a free transfer under the Bosman ruling and signing a contract that runs to the end of the year.
Widlund's path started at Bele Barkarby, his youth club, before he moved on to Viggbyholms IK on 1 July 2024, again as a free agent. He spent two seasons there in Sweden's Division 2, making 17 appearances in his first year and 25 in the second, building a regular run of games in midfield before the switch abroad.
He made his debut for IFK Mariehamn in July 2026, stepping into the Veikkausliiga for the first time. The move brought him into Finland's top flight at a stage of his career where he had, until then, played exclusively in Sweden's lower divisions.
