About the player
William Sonne-Schmidt made his Superliga debut for Brøndby on 25 July 2026, coming on in place of Patrick Pentz, who was absent for the birth of his child. Before that call-up, the goalkeeper had already sat on the bench for several first-team fixtures, including UEFA Europa Conference League matches, without being needed.
The path there ran through the youth system rather than the transfer market. Sonne-Schmidt began at Rudersdal Boldklub before moving to BK Søllerød-Vedbæk, where he spent seven years developing, and joined Brøndby's academy in 2019. No fee changed hands at any stage of that progression. On 8 January 2026 he signed his first professional contract with the club, tying him to Brøndby until June 2029, a commitment Tipsbladet reported came despite interest from clubs in Belgium, the Netherlands and the EFL Championship.
At international level, Sonne-Schmidt has represented Denmark's under-17 side, winning two caps in 2023.
