Aluminium Arak reached the top flight of Iranian football for the first time in 2020, finishing second in the Azadegan League. In 2022 came the closest the club has come to a trophy: a run to the final of the Hazfi Cup, ending as runners-up. Since settling into the Persian Gulf Pro League, seventh place, in 2022-2023 and again in 2023-2024, has been the club's best finish.

The club has not always had the luxury of a settled name. It started out in Arak in 2001 as PAS Arak, became Sanaye Arak the following year, and only turned into Aluminium Arak in 2008, when the Iranian Aluminium Company — IRALCO — bought in and gave the club the identity it carries now. Ownership kept moving after that: through Shensa, through Hamyari, briefly under the Arak municipality, before IRALCO reclaimed the club in 2014 and with it the name. Pashazadeh's promotion side came together the following season, under that restored ownership.

Rouhollah Arab remains the club's leading scorer, with 13 goals across his time there, while Ramtin Soleimanzadeh and Meysam Aghaei share the appearance record on 115 games apiece. The team plays out of the Imam Khomeini Stadium in Arak, which holds 15,000.

Aluminium Arak has no derby in the usual sense. The nearest thing is Shahrdari Arak, the other club in the city and one it shares a stadium with, but Shahrdari's spells outside the top flight have kept the fixture from becoming a fixed date on the calendar. Shahr Khodro comes up as a rival too, though without the history to call it a derby.
