Standard Liège brings out the sharpest edge in Anderlecht Women's calendar, a national rivalry that has run alongside the club's own dominance of the league table; closer to home, matches against White Star Woluwe carry the weight of a Brussels derby. Those fixtures matter because for most of the past decade there has been little else to separate Anderlecht from the rest of Belgian football.
The club did not start life under this name. It began in 1971 as the women's section of Vlug Op Wemmel, broke away in 1974 as Wemmel Dames 71, then moved to the capital in 1978 and became Brussels Dames 71. Only in 1993 did it merge into RSC Anderlecht, taking on the men's club's purple and white and the nickname that goes with it. Since joining Anderlecht it has added seven more in a row, from 2018 through 2024.
