Singapore's oldest club traces its line to a Farrer Park side founded on 10 October 1898 as Fathul Karib Football Club. It became Balestier United Recreation Club in 1975, then Balestier Central when the S.League launched in 1996 as a founder member, and in 2002 took its present name after merging with Clementi Khalsa.
Fans know the side as the Hala Tigers, playing in red and white. The 2012 to 2014 stretch remains the club's high point: an FA Cup won against Siglap CSC, a League Cup taken from DPMM under captain Paul Cunningham, and a Singapore Cup final beating Home United 3–1, with marquee signing Goran Ljubojević on the scoresheet. Marko Kraljević oversaw all of it.
Toa Payoh Stadium was home for decades until its demolition forced a move to Bishan Stadium for the 2023 Singapore Premier League season, a ground that seats 6,254 and can be pushed to 10,000 for the bigger occasions.
The derby that matters most is against Geylang International.
