Banks O' Dee

A semi-final tie against Newtongrange Star once drew a crowd too large for Spain Park, and the Scottish Junior Cup game had to be shifted across Aberdeen to Pittodrie. 16,369 people passed through the turnstiles that day in 1957 — still the highest attendance the club has ever recorded. Banks o' Dee went on to Hampden Park for the final, where 30,800 watched them beat their opponents to the Scottish Junior Cup. Everything else in the club's cabinet since has been regional silverware; that afternoon at Hampden remains its one trophy of national weight.

The club was formed in 1902 under the name Rechabites, and the nickname stuck long after the name on the shirt changed to Banks o' Dee. For most of the twentieth century it stayed within junior football, winning the North East Premier Division repeatedly through the 1970s and into the 1980s and collecting seven North Superleague titles between 2008 and 2022. Only in 2014 did the club affiliate to the SFA, and it took until 2022 to reach the Highland League itself — promoted through a play-off after Fort William withdrew with a squad they could not field. A Highland League Cup followed in 2023, and the Aberdeenshire Cup has been won twice, in 2022 and 2025.

Locally, the fixture that still matters is against Aberdeen East End, a derby carried over from the junior game, alongside Challenge Cup meetings with Aberdeen's reserve side. Spain Park, on Abbotswell Road, holds 876, with just 100 of those seated — a fraction of the crowd the club once had to turn away to another ground entirely.
