Dong Xoai sits at the centre of Binh Phuoc province, and its football team has carried the province's name into the lower reaches of Vietnamese football, playing out of Binh Phuoc Stadium on National Highway 14. The club was founded in 2006 as Binh Phuoc FC, and third-place finishes in V.League 2 in 2017 and 2019 were as far as it went.

The Truong Tuoi Group's takeover in October 2023 changed the club's name to Truong Tuoi Binh Phuoc FC, and the province's own administrative map shifted under it: in August 2025, Binh Phuoc merged into Dong Nai province, and the club followed, becoming Truong Tuoi Dong Nai FC. It lost a promotion play-off to SHB Da Nang as runners-up in 2024–25, then went one better the following season, winning the V.League 2 title outright in 2025–26 and securing its first-ever promotion to V.League 1. The club took the name Dong Nai City FC that August.
