«Boxers»
Pacific University's football team plays in NCAA Division III, with George Fox and its Bruins standing as its rivals. The programme itself is recent by the university's own clock: it came back in 2010, eighteen years after Pacific dropped football altogether in 1992.
The university that fields it is anything but recent. Pacific opened its doors in 1849 as Tualatin Academy, more than half a century before anyone there had thrown a football, and the Boxers now play out of Hanson Stadium, known on campus as Ledbetter Field, which holds 1,100.
Most of what the team has to show for itself traces to one coach. Paul Stagg took charge in 1947 and stayed until 1960, and Pacific won the Northwest Conference three times on his watch, in 1949, 1951 and 1952. White, black and maroon have stayed the colours through all of it.
A fourth conference title did not follow until 2014.
