Budaörs Women

Ágnes Hornyák signed for Budaörs in 2016 with 102 caps for Hungary already behind her and a fourth-place finish from the 2008 Olympics. She played there until 2021, then stayed on as the club's professional director once she hung up her boots.

The club she joined had been rebuilt only a few years earlier. Imre Kálóczi put it back together in the summer of 2011 to give children in Budaörs and the towns around it a place to play handball. From that starting point it climbed fast: promotion out of the second-tier NB I/B in 2012/13 and again in 2014/15 took the team into the top flight, where it held on from 2015 to 2019 before dropping back down. A third promotion, in 2020/21, put it back among Hungary's leading sides, where it has stayed since.

The biggest occasion in that spell came in the 2024–25 season, when Budaörs reached the Final Four of the Hungarian Cup for the first time in its history and beat Motherson Mosonmagyaróvári KC 22–18 in the third-place match for bronze. Daniel Buday, the head coach who took the team there, had his contract extended that April. On the domestic circuit, matches against MTK Budapest are the ones supporters mark as the rangadó, the one worth circling on the calendar, even without a fixed name attached to the rivalry.

Squad and coaching staff have turned over repeatedly since 2011 — Szandra Szöllősi-Zácsik and Barbara Pálos-Bognár both wore the shirt for years before moving on, and Nadine Szöllősi-Schatzl, a European bronze medallist, joined only in 2024. What has not changed is the reason the club exists.
