Second place is as far as Dubai City FC have got, twice over — runners-up in the UAE Second Division League in 2020–21 and again in 2024–25, the second finish enough to send them up into the UAE Division 1 for the first time. Four years between the two near-misses, and it took the second one to actually move the club forward.

Sultan Hareb Al Falahi put the club together in 2018, at a point when Dubai's football landscape ran almost entirely through the big state-backed sides; a new club without that backing had to build its own way up through the divisions rather than arrive with a place already reserved for it. There has been no cup run to speak of and no Pro League football yet — the Second Division stayed home for six years before the 2024–25 promotion finally broke that.

Home games are played at Kings School Al Barsha, a school ground rather than a purpose-built stadium, which tells its own story about a club still finding its level rather than one settling into permanence. It suits a side whose identity has been built on the training pitch and in the lower divisions rather than in front of large crowds.

Al Falahi remains the name attached to the club from the start, the founder rather than a manager or player who arrived later to inherit what was already there. In a club with no honours yet beyond two runners-up medals, his decision to start it in the first place is still the fact that everything else here traces back to.
