Pedro Revilla put the club together in 1977.
The 2022–23 season broke that pattern. Derio won the División de Honor of the Basque Country and went up to the Tercera Federación, the national fifth tier, for the first time in the club's history. Egoitz Bilbao took the side through the three seasons that followed.
In June 2025 the club appointed Iker Muniain as head coach. The former Athletic Club captain came through the Seminario de Derio, the local football school that has long fed Athletic's own academy, and he has spoken of the town as the place where he first started to dream seriously about football.
