Diriangén

Ramiro Peters was an Argentine forward when he scored the goal that beat Comunicaciones in the 2022 CONCACAF League. It sits inside a much longer run of winning that stretches back to a six-title streak from 1940 to 1945 and continues in a more recent stretch of dominance. By that count Diriangén stands as the most decorated club in Nicaraguan football, with 33 championships to its name.

Before Peters, there was Mauricio Cruz Jirón, who wore the shirt for nearly twenty years across two spells, 1973 to 1982 and 1984 to 1992, scoring 170 goals and earning caps for the national team along the way. Diriamba itself is regarded as the birthplace of football in Nicaragua.

On the pitch the club plays in black and white, which gives rise to the other nickname, Los Blanquinegros, and its biggest rival is Real Estelí, a fixture known in Nicaragua as the Clásico Nacional. Diriangén has also added the Copa de Nicaragua five times, most recently in 2024 and 2025. Home games are played at Estadio Cacique Diriangén, which holds 7,500 spectators.

The club was founded on 15 May 1917, in the city that had already given the country its first football.
