Dovo

So the name changed to DOVO — Door Ons Vrienden Opgericht , founded by our friends.

DOVO built its name as an amateur side, and the peak came in 1979, when it beat ACV over two legs to become the Algemeen Kampioen Zaterdagamateurs, the national Saturday amateur champion. A year later the club reached the final of the separate Saturday Cup and lost 0-2 to SC Arnemuiden, while Feyenoord lifted the main KNVB Cup that same season. The Eerste Klasse title alone landed eight times between 1975 and 2011, and DOVO spent from 1997 in the Topklasse, the top amateur tier, before relegation sent it back down and a return to the Derde Divisie followed in 2017. In 2023 the club reached the promotion playoffs for the Tweede Divisie and lost to VVSB.

Dennis Schulp turned out for DOVO in 2009-10, arriving with an Eredivisie title won at Ajax in 1996 already behind him, after a career that also took in Willem II, De Graafschap and N.E.C.

Sportpark Panhuis holds 3,200 for DOVO within a wider complex built for 4,500, and a derby against GVVV in September 2022 drew 5,000 through the gates. Fireworks set the turf alight during trouble in March 2023, and a fight between the two sets of supporters had already broken out in December 2019. GVVV is the club Veenendaal measures itself against, and the derby is where that shows.
