Excelsior Maassluis has managed two cup nights in Third-tier football in the Netherlands. The Tweede Divisie side beat Eredivisie club FC Volendam 1–0 in the first round of the KNVB Beker in 2023–24 and went on to the Round of 16, with captain Kevin Dercks scoring against ADO Den Haag along the way.

In 2023–24 Maassluis kept their place only through the relegation playoffs, coming past USV Hercules, Harkemase Boys and SC Genemuiden.

Much of what the first team has runs through the youth set-up at Sportpark Dijkpolder. The KNVB granted the academy regional status with a star rating in 2014, and in 2016–17 it was rated the best in the country. Redouan Omar Ouali came through it and made 128 league appearances for the first team; Kaylan Muis left for Sparta Rotterdam and came back.
