Fomat Martin

Football in Martin nearly vanished as an organised senior pursuit when ŠKF ZŤS VTJ Martin, a club tracing back to 1912 under a succession of names — Turčiansky futbalový klub, ŠK Martin, TJ Spartak Martin, TJ Strojárne Martin, TJ ZŤS Martin — was dissolved in 2006, its first team folded into FC Rimavská Sobota B. MŠK Fomat Martin had existed since 1994 as a youth club and stepped into the gap that year, taking up senior football in the league pyramid without any formal claim to the old club's history.

The city had known better days on a football map: the predecessor sides reached the 2. Liga five times between 1959 and 2000 and once got as far as the Czechoslovak Cup quarter-finals, in 1969. Fomat's own record is thinner. The club won the 3. Liga Central Group in 2016 and went up to the second tier, only to come straight back down after a single season, 2016–17. It has stayed in the third division since.

Miroslav Barčík, capped for Slovakia, wore the shirt between 2019 and 2023. Games against MFK Dolný Kubín and MŠK Kysucké Nové Mesto carry the weight of regional derbies in Turiec.

Areál Pltníky, holding 1,200, has been home since 2021, which held between 8,000 and 12,000. That move away from a ground built for a different scale of club says as much about where Fomat now stands as any table position.
