Gavião

Gavião is still playing under a name that only became official in 2009. Before that it was Castanheira Esporte Clube, until the Kyikatejê-Gavião people, led by Chief Zeca Gavião, took over the rights in 2007 so their community could compete in Marabá's municipal league. League rules kept the Castanheira name in place for two more seasons, during which the side won the Campeonato Marabaense in 2008, before the club was professionalised and renamed Gavião Kyikatejê Futebol Clube — the first professional football club in Brazil owned by an indigenous people.

The team is based in Bom Jesus do Tocantins but plays at the Estádio Municipal Zinho de Oliveira, known locally as Ninho das Aves, in Marabá. Zeca Gavião has stayed at the centre of the project as founder, president and coach. The club's own history carries a heavier loss: Aru, born Paulo Sompré, scored Gavião's first goal in the elite division in 2014 and remained its all-time top scorer until his death in 2018, after which his number 9 shirt was retired.

Runner-up finishes have shaped most of the club's competitive record since the renaming — in the Campeonato Paraense Série B2 in 2013 and again in 2020, and in the Divisão de Acesso in 2014. Away from the league pyramid, the side also won the men's football title at the Jogos Tradicionais Indígenas do Pará in 2014.

None of that carries the weight of the Clássico Marabaense, the derby against Águia de Marabá known locally as the Clássico das Aves — the Classic of the Birds — a rivalry the club inherited from its Castanheira days.
