GCK Lions

When Stu Robertson guided the side to the championship and cup double in 1966, the shirt still read Grasshopper Club Zürich.

The ice hockey section behind that side had been formed in 1932, decades before anyone spoke of lions. That came in 2000, when Grasshopper's hockey department merged with SC Küsnacht and took the name GCK Lions, a contraction of Grasshopper Club Küsnacht. Blue and white had been Grasshopper's colours; red was added afterwards to tie the new identity to the wider Lions family in Zurich.

That family runs through everything the club does now. GCK Lions play in the Swiss League, the second tier, as the development side for the ZSC Lions in the National League, and matches between the two are treated as a clash within the same household. Xeno Büsser holds the club's appearance record with 462 games, while Mike Richard's number 72 hangs retired at the KEK Küsnacht after a career that produced 187 points.

Since 2000 the silverware has come almost entirely from the under-21 ranks, with titles collected as recently as 2025. The senior championship and cup won under Robertson still belong, strictly speaking, to a club that no longer carries this name, and nothing at the top level has replaced them since.
