Germania List

Sevens rugby is where SC Germania List has been unbeatable lately: the men's side took the German 7s Championship in 2024, 2025 and 2026, beating RG Heidelberg in the final each time, twice by the same 17:12 scoreline. The women followed the same script in 2026, edging SC Neuenheim 12:7 for a fourth 7s title, having also lifted the trophy in 2003, 2004 and 2023 — with a runners-up finish to Heidelberger RK the year before as the only blot.

The fifteen-a-side game built the club's older reputation. Three German championships came in 1977, 1979 and 1981, all won against Heidelberg clubs — Heidelberger Ruderklub twice, Heidelberger TV 1846 once — and the closest of the three was the last, a 28:19 final against the Ruderklub. Two runners-up finishes came earlier still, in 1942 and 1949. In the cup competition List has been more consistent than dominant: five DRV Cup wins between 1968 and 2000, bookended by a narrow 11:9 defeat of SV Odin Hannover and an 18:8 win over DSV 1878 Hannover.

Karl-Heinz Seligmann captained the German national team out of this club, and Niklas Koch carried the sevens pedigree into a European title with the national squad, a link between what List does now and what it has produced for the wider game.

Founded in 1900, the club is among the oldest in German rugby, and its rivalry with Hannover 78 across the city is still billed locally as the "Duell der Duelle." Matches are played at the Sportplatz Schneckenburgerstraße, a ground that holds barely a hundred spectators — a reminder that in Hanover, rugby has stayed a small, local affair even as the trophies piled up.
