Club Balonmán Atlético Guardés grew out of that court in 1967.
What changed the club's standing was Mecalia's sponsorship from 2012. The results followed: on the final day of the 2016-17 season, Guardés beat KH-7 Granollers 27-20 to win the Liga Loterías, its first Spanish title. A runners-up finish in the Women's EHF European Cup in 2022-23, and in 2025-26 it went one better, winning the competition outright for its first European title.
The nickname Las Guerreras is one Guardés shares with Spain's national side, which has used A Guarda as a training base.
