Hammer Eisbären

Hammer Eisbären took the Regionalliga West title in 2016/17 and then turned it down, staying put rather than moving up a tier. The Regionalliga West Cup had already gone to Hamm in 2008/09, back when the senior side still played under the name Lippe-Hockey-Hamm.

That name traces to 2004, when the club took over from ESC Hamm. The Hammer Eisbären identity itself is older and borrowed: it belonged to the ice hockey department of ASV Hamm, formed in 1989, which spent four seasons in the second-tier 1. Liga Nord before folding. On 31 May 2011 the senior team, then playing as Youngstars Hamm, took that name back.

Jiří Kovařík and Brad Scott played for the club through the 1990s, in the ASV years before the bankruptcy. Nemanja Vučurević wore the shirt in 2014/15, by which point the club was competing in the Oberliga Nord under its current name.

The fixture against Herforder EV is billed locally as the Ewige Derby, the Eternal Derby.

Home games are played in red, white and blue at the Beta Finanz Eissportarena, a rink with room for 1,800, of which 310 have seats.
