«Hapoel Herzliya»
Hapoel Herzliya's football section opened in 1936, and within a year the team had already won the Palestine League Second Division, earning a first taste of the top flight. A second promotion followed in 1938, but it has not returned to Israel's highest tier since.
What followed was decades of work in the lower leagues: a Liga Alef title in 1959–60, and Liga Bet championships either side of the millennium. The closest the club came to a cup run was the 1960–61 Israel State Cup, where it reached the semi-finals before losing 0–4 to Hapoel Petah Tikva. More recent success has come in the Regions Cup, won in 2023 and again in 2025.
Gideon Tish, remembered above all for his years at Hapoel Tel Aviv and in the Israeli national team, spent two seasons at Herzliya between 1966 and 1968 — a name that carried weight into a club used to smaller ones. The Herzliya Municipal Stadium, known locally as HaTzafon, holds a little over 8,000, red and white in the stands as much as on the shirts.
None of it matters more to the fans than the derby with Maccabi Herzliya, the other club chasing the same city's loyalty. The rivalry has flared with genuine fan clashes over the years, yet the two sides have rarely had the chance to renew it: after meeting in 2010, they did not face each other again in competition until 2022, twenty-three years removed from their last regular encounter before that.
