Liga Alef South is the fourth tier, and that is where Maccabi Yavne have sat since dropping out of the top flight for the third time.

The one season worth dwelling on is 1984–85, when Yavne beat Beitar Jerusalem 2–1 in the Toto Cup final. It remains the club's only major trophy, and it fell in the middle of a five-year stretch in Liga Leumit that ran from 1982 to 1987 — the club's first taste of the top division, reached via a third-place finish in Liga Artzit the year before.

Between those spells the club has done most of its winning several tiers down: Liga Bet or Liga Alef titles in 1975–76, 1979–80 and 2011–12, and the tier below that in 1970–71 and 2000–01.

Tzion Yaakov, known as "Pugel", is still spoken of as the club's greatest player.

Home games are played at what is now Jackie Levy Stadium, renamed in 2015. Across town is Beitar Yavne, and for over sixty years the two never met in a league derby; that changed only in the 2025/2026 season.
