The Bronze medal did not come easily. In the 2024–2025 season OV Helsingborg HK reached the Final Four of the ATG Svenska Cupen, lost to Ystads IF in the semi-final, then beat Alingsås HK in the match for third place. That same season the men's team reached the SM semi-finals, the first time the club had gone that far since it took its current shape.

The shape dates to 1994, when Vikingarnas IF and HF Olympia merged into a single Helsingborg club, first known as Olympic/Viking HK before it settled on OV Helsingborg HK in 2006. The championships in the trophy cabinet, from 1961, 1967 and 1981, belong to Vikingarnas IF from before the merger; nothing since has matched them, which is what made last season's run to a semi-final worth noticing.

Green and white are the club's colours, and the supporters who wear them go by the Green Goblins. Helsingborg Arena, known locally as OvH Arena, holds the team on nights that matter, though it is the Skånederby against HK Malmö and Lugi HF, the region's shared rivalry, that draws the sharper edge from the crowd.

Toni Johansson has coached the side since 2020, and it was under him that the modern club produced its deepest cup and league runs, with Emil Andersson among the players who carried the semi-final push. Off the pitch, the club runs "OV Handboll och Skola", pairing handball with schoolwork for younger players in the city.

The men's team plays in Allsvenskan after relegation from the Handbollsligan following the 2022/2023 season, and the women's team competes in Allsvenskan as well. Getting back to the top flight is the task now sitting in front of the club.
