Hitchin Town 's one senior league title took seven years to arrive after formation, won in the Spartan League in 1934–35.

The Canaries trace their name to the yellow and green adopted when the club formed in 1928 out of an earlier Hitchin side that had folded in 1911, blue shorts giving way to green after a few seasons in the new colours. Dave Kitson began his career here before a £150,000 move to Reading took him into the Football League and eventually to Stoke City.

Two runs to the FA Cup First Round Proper, in 1995–96 and 2018–19, stand as the club's furthest points in the competition. The biggest crowd Top Field has held came in 1956, 7,878 packed in for visitors Wycombe Wanderers.
