Skövde's handball club has finished second in the national championship four times — 2005, 2007, 2021 and 2022. The one time silverware from the top flight went their way at continental level was 2004, when they beat Dunkerque HBGL to the EHF Challenge Cup, six years after losing the same final to TuS Nettelstedt.

The section began life on 23 September 1907 as part of Idrottsföreningen Kamraternas Skövdekrets XIII, and stayed a subsection of the wider IFK alliance until 1991, when it reorganised into an independent association under the same name and colours. Domestically, the one final it did win came in 1987, against HP Warta in the Svenska Cupen.

The nickname Sköfdes Blå Bönder — the Blue Farmers of Skövde — belongs to the supporters rather than the team itself. The junior sides have been more consistently decorated than the seniors, taking the Junior-SM four times, in 1976, 1992, 1993 and 1998.

Skövde sits inside the Skaraborgsderby, its fixtures against Skara HF and Skövde HF. Older still is the rivalry with Skövde AIK, remembered above all for a 1975 meeting known locally as the kondensderbyt — the condensation derby.
