The derby that matters most to Lemvig-Thyborøn Håndbold is played against Mors-Thy Håndbold.

The club traces back to a merger arranged by Arne Pedersen, who brought together Nr. Lem GF's younger players and the more experienced squad at Nr. Nissum KFUM & K to form NNFH Lemvig on 7 September 1969. That parent structure ran under the NNFH Lemvig name until 2006, when an elite division was built on top of it under the name Lemvig Håndbold and reached the top flight, Håndboldligaen, for the 2006/07 season before dropping back down. A tie-up with HK 68 Thyborøn in 2010/11 produced the joint company Lemvig-Thyborøn A/S and gave the first team its current name; Thyborøn pulled out of the arrangement in 2012, but the name stayed. The parent club itself moved on again in 2019, merging fully with Gudum Nissum Idræts Forening to become Lemvig-Nissum Håndbold.

Among the players who came through the club, Jannick Green stands out: the goalkeeper started his career at Lemvig before going on to GOG and Aalborg and into the Danish national setup.

The club's one major trophy remains the Danish Men's Handball Cup, won in 1984, and the closest it came in the league was third place in 1987. Home games are played at the Jysk Energi Arena, known locally through its earlier name, Vestjysk BANK Arena.
