Katwijk

Donny van Oyen spent seven seasons wearing the orange shirt before leaving in 2023, long enough to see Katwijk go from a solid amateur side to a team that kept winning things it had never won before. The club he played for was formed on 17 February 1939, and its home ever since has been Sportpark De Krom, a 6,000-capacity ground on the edge of the town that replaced an earlier, unrecorded field in 1985.

Katwijk plays in orange shirts and socks with black shorts, which earned it the nickname De Oranjehemden. The 2012–13 season stands apart: the club won the Topklasse and followed it by taking the Dutch amateur championship outright. It has since added three Tweede Divisie titles, in 2017–18, 2021–22 and 2022–23, on top of five earlier Hoofdklasse championships stretching back to the 1990s.

None of that carries the weight of the Katwijkse derby. Quick Boys play from the same town, 2.5 kilometres away, and the fixture is known locally as the Moeder aller derby's — the mother of all derbies. Feelings run high enough that the municipality buses away supporters straight to the ground rather than let them walk through residential streets beforehand.

In the KNVB Beker, the national cup, Katwijk has never gone all the way. The closest recent run came in 2022–23, when the club reached the last sixteen before losing to SV Spakenburg on penalties. Since then it has been knocked out by professional opposition each season — FC Twente, Almere City and FC Den Bosch among them — a reminder of how far an amateur side still has to travel to trouble the top flight.
