KÍ Klaksvík

The club's full name gives it away: Klaksvíkar Ítróttarfelag, a general sports association for the town rather than a football club on its own, formed in 1904. Football is the part of it that lasted.

For decades it did more than last, it dominated. Between 1942 and 1972 KÍ carried off the Faroese league well over a dozen times, then went quiet, taking nothing between 1972 and 1991.

The next revival came properly from 2019: five league titles in seven seasons, the most recent in 2025, plus the Faroe Cup the same year and four Faroe Super Cups.

Árni Frederiksberg supplied the clearest moment of that run, scoring the decisive penalties that put KÍ past Iceland's Hecken in Champions League qualifying in 2023. Hallur Hansson has captained the side through much of it.

Home matches are played at Við Djúpumýrar, in blue and white, in front of a ground that holds around 2,600. NSÍ Runavík supplies the sharper of the club's rivalries, one that has never quite settled on a single agreed name; B36 Tórshavn is the other fixture that matters most.

All of it runs back to the same starting point: the sports association founded in the town of Klaksvík in 1904.
