Kitara

Denis Omedi scored fifteen goals in the 2023–24 season and picked up a nomination for the FIFA Puskás Award. He came through at Kitara during the years the team turned itself from a relegated Uganda Premier League side into a cup-winning one.

The club was set up in 2010 by the community of the Bunyoro sub-region as a way of keeping alive the memory of the Bunyoro Kingdom and its former king, Kabalega.

Kitara went down from the Uganda Premier League at the end of the 2020/21 season, bottom of the table on 13 points. They found their way back by winning the FUFA Big League, the second tier, in 2022/23, beating Kaaro Karungi FC 1-0 in the final. Within a year of returning to the top flight they were lifting the Stanbic Uganda Cup, beating NEC FC 1-0 in the 50th edition final on a goal from Solomon Okwalinga. They won it again in the 52nd edition, coming from behind to beat SC Villa 2-1 with Jimmy Kalema scoring the winner.

The 2024 cup win sent Kitara into the CAF Confederation Cup, a first taste of continental football, where they were drawn against Al Hilal Benghazi. Since September 2024 the club has played its home games at Royals Park Stadium in Butema, having moved on from Masindi Municipal Stadium and the Kigaaya Playground grounds it used earlier.
