Liberec Bílí Tygři U20

Ice hockey came to Liberec through a merger: local sides Jiskra Kolora and Tatran joined forces once the city built a new rink, and the resulting club, TJ Lokomotiva Liberec, kept changing its name over the following decades before settling on HC Bílí Tygři Liberec in 2000. The junior side, the U20 team, grew out of that same academy and now plays in the Czech Junior Extraliga.

The academy's name is Petr Nedvěd: he holds the club record for points in a single regular season, 61, set in 2012. Ladislav Šmíd followed a similar path out of the youth ranks into North American hockey, turning out for Anaheim, Edmonton and Calgary.

The U20s have not yet won their league outright — twice they have finished as runners-up, and no higher.

Liberec's senior team plays in front of crowds of up to 7,500 at the Home Credit Arena, the ground the junior side calls home too.
